Save St. Brigid Church, San Francisco

Newspaper/Magazine Article Reference

In November 1993, the Pastoral Planning Commission of the San Francisco Archdiocese recommended the closure of 13 churches in San Francisco: All Hallows, Holy Cross, Immaculate Conception, Nativity, St. Benedict's, St. Brigid's, St. Edward the Confessor, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis Xavier's, St. Joseph's, St. Michael's, St. Paul's, and St. Thomas More. The following newspaper articles present many angles of the situation during the period of time, such as the parishioners' reaction, historic preservation law (re: AB133) involvement, management change in the diocese, subsequent reopening of some churches (including a reference to the reopening of St. Joseph Church in Worchester, Massachuset.) These articles are meant to provide the reader a better understanding of the whole issue. Presently, we are in the process of scanning in the articles for your convenience.
